Okay, I must admit I was puzzled when I saw the term “boyfriend shirt”. I wondered whether it was matching his and hers pyjamas. But then I saw a model wearing the garment and there was no man in sight. After a couple of seconds viewing the photo, the light finally turned on. A boyfriend shirt is a male-styled pyjama top or shirt that a woman can wear to bed or lounging. A variation on the woman wearing the man’s actual shirt, boyfriend shirts are made to fit women even if there is no boyfriend.

The shirts are perfect for sleeping or casual wear as the look is feminine yet the design is longer and more comfortable being a man’s style rather than tight and short like a woman’s blouse. Not much selection is available yet but some of the designers that I saw offering boyfriend shirts were John Lewis with pretty cotton in white with green stripe shirt complete with male collar and breast pocket. The other designer was Lilly Pulitzer with her gorgeous, signature colours pink and green shirt from the Spring 2008 collection. Lovely three-quarter length sleeves finished in vibrant print buttons down the front

Certainly, if the name fits, wear it!
