Putting Together Your Bridal Trosseau: 2

wedding 2These days, naturally, the trousseau is much more modern. In most cases, there are few, if any, “practical” items; that is, the items used for making the new home are not found in the modern day trousseau. Now, more lingerie is included, plenty of nightwear, as well as some luxurious items meant to treat the bride, the groom, and both at the same time. There are lush toiletries, excellent makeup, or even treats like chocolate.

Back to lingerie, however, merely packing panties and bras simply will not cut it. You should have a bridal set, including panties, bra, slip, negligee, and nightgown. This is traditionally worn on the day and night of the wedding, respectively.

Other appropriate items include a housecoat or bed jacket, slippers, stockings, and pajamas.

wedding 1You have picked out the cake. You have the perfect dress. The flowers are all in order. The venue has been chosen. The bridesmaid dresses and tuxes are all decided.

But what about the bridal trousseau? What about the lingerie you are taking on your honeymoon?

The word “trousseau” is French in origin; it comes from the word “trousse,” which translates into “bundle.” Back in the day, the trousseau included what you may today think of as the hope chest collection. It consisted of everything the bride owned and needed to set up her new home. Typically, pieces of lingerie were by and large handmade, although the Victorians, who made the whole idea of the trousseau much more elaborate, also enhanced the lingerie involved.

So what goes into the modern honeymoon trousseau? Well, keep reading!

Highlighting Exquisite Bridal Collections

With spring just around the corner, I can smell the sweet scent of garden weddings and I hear the pretty wedding bells chiming in the wind. This is the perfect time of the year to discuss bridal lingerie, as many women will be looking for undergarments to suit their gowns for their spring or summer weddings. I further wanted to spotlight luxury pieces that were handmade and of the utmost quality or so intricately created that they seemed like custom pieces to each bride who wore them.

Verde Veronica, from Italy, unveils the real scenery of a wedding with their Melody Bridal Collection. Sophistication, elegance and prestige are the underpinnings of this fine lingerie ensemble. It is easy for the bride to fall into a trance with the luxurious satins and laces that compose this collection. And the crowning glory is the v-shaped rhinestone pendant that adorns the top of each piece.

diki Lingerie, by Diane Rubach of Britain, includes the most glamourous and richest satin and silk garments with beaded sequins. Her “made-to-measure” bridal collection pieces are spectacular. Depending on the colour of the wedding gown, my favourite undergarment is the Tara Basque in delicate gold lace and exquisite gold embroidery. The beautiful part about wearing this gorgeous piece of workmanship is once the wedding gown is off and the honeymoon starts, other pieces of the collection may be added for a romantic effect. The gold lace jacket in long sleeves with the basque and matching thong or brief would make any wedding a memorable occasion.

Ophelia Fancy, handmade vintage inspired lingerie, instantly became recognized in the UK when winning the ‘Individual Designer Award’ at the Swatch Alternative Fashion Week 06. Their Silver Sixpence Bridal Collection is refined and dream-like. Imagine wearing lingerie proudly created with Swarovski crystals and the most expensive silks and laces. Here is their description of one of the bridal bras in the collection: “These pretty halter bras are created from pannels of ivory silk dupion and every seam is edged in soft ivory ribbon threaded lace topped with genuine Swarovski hot fix flat crystals they also feature two stunning crystal buttons.” The Pearl over Bust Corset is touted as the best one can buy and is “pattern perfected by one of the oldest running corset companies in the UK”. Pleated lace, beaded drop pearls and satin bow make this corset stunning.

And lastly, no wedding lingerie ensemble would be complete without the traditional garter. Bridal Angel in New Jersey, USA has a pretty selection of handmade garters from which to choose.

Anticipating Wedding Night Luxuries

Planning a destination wedding takes detailed planning and organization. It can also be very exciting and fun! There’s the excitement of picking out engagement rings, the thrill of the bridal party pageantry, and the careful planning of the romantic wedding night with diamonds. Women like to make sure that the first wedding night is memorable, and one way to do that is through making it a sensual feast of luxury and indulgence.

Diamonds have been associated with luxury for ages. Now, even lingerie makers like Victoria’s Secret have paired this beautiful gemstone with the lacy delicacy of lingerie. The Victoria secret fantasy bra line comes out every year trying to entice someone to lay down millions for a jeweled diamond bra. However, you don’t have to have millions to get the same effect. The secret is in tying the right kind of fabrics to the wedding night jewelry for a stunning effect.

Diamonds work well with satin, lace, and luxury fabrics, like velvet. Designing your own luxury lingerie outfit can be as simple as matching your engagement rings to outfits that bring out the luster, rainbow highlights, or brilliance of your diamond jewelry. Fabrics with a nice luster or texture can pair very nicely with diamonds. You can add diamond earrings, bracelets, and necklaces, without resorting to having them stitched into the lingerie. This can make it more affordable and fun to mix and match. To be really daring, add a diamond ankle bracelet to bring a little excitement to the bed sheets.
