Living in a “State of Undress”

State of UndressThe thing I love most of the State of Undress lingerie brand is the versatility of so many of the pieces therein. They are nothing less than sensual and quintessentially intimate. Sexy, sophisticated, and even sublime, the lounge wear and the lingerie from State of Undress represents what it means to be a confident woman. Better still, the pieces therein straddle the boundary between lingerie and actual fashion, and what could be better than that?

One great example of this is the State of Undress Loulou Blue Waterlilies Slip and Thong Set. The combination is pretty and feminine to the max. The camisole has a colorful, beautiful silk print with a bright pink ribbon designed to wrap around the body.

Better still? The camisole can be paired with your favorite pair of jeans for a truly innovative new outfit.

Luxury Lingerie: Is There Anything Better?

When it comes right down to it … the rich have it made!  They can buy anything from expensive cars all the way to expensive lingerie and that is what we are going to explore right about now!  This beautiful empire chemise was made by Wendy G, Simone Perele Adelaide took care of the G-String and the sleep mask was made by Mary Green.  It took three designers to come up with beautiful concept of luxury lingerie but I thank them for that!

This piece looks sort of like it was from the renaissance aura and while that type of lingerie is not exactly ‘in style’ right now, it is beautiful.  There is something to be said about a piece of lingerie that tells a story and this piece in particular is one that looks like it could tell a pretty fantastic story.

So if you are looking for a piece of lingerie that not only looks amazing on anyone but is also very expensive and luxurious why not pick up this beauty?  You won’t regret it!!

Buying Camisoles with Attached Bras

Posted in Camisole, Hanes on July 3rd, 2008 by LLS – Be the first to comment

Camisoles are my favourite piece of lingerie, probably because I own so many. It is the one piece of lingerie next to underpants that I wear everyday regardless of whether my outer clothing is formal or casual. Camisoles are important to me but one thing that really aggravates me when purchasing camisoles is the problem I have with my body shape.

My hips are a little bigger but my bust and waist are small so when I try on camisoles, if they do not have spandex, they ride up the back because they will not sit flat on the hips. But even greater than the rolling up, is the problem with camisoles that have their own bras. Basically, I can never find one to fit properly.camisole hanes When the hip area fits, the bra band is always too wide so there is no point in having the attached bra. And I am sure I am not the only woman that has this problem with these supposed convenient camisoles.

I just took a quick look around and I see some basic camisoles that I like. But for example, this Cotton Shelf Bra Cami from One Hanes Place, comes in sizes S, M, L and XL. Now I would be inclined to order the XL because of shrinking and such but I just know when I get the camisole, the bra will be huge. How is anyone supposed to judge her bra size by small, medium and large? By the way, I am not knocking Hanes as I LOVE and wear their undershirts and sweatshirts because of the excellent quality, but one would think that with all this talk about women wearing the wrong bra size, that manufacturers in general could do better in making a Bra Cami.

Maybe some of you ladies out there can let me know what brands you wear. I would like to try them myself and subsequently write another article highlighting the companies that focus on custom sizing for camisoles that contain bras — a strange new trend in lingerie!

The Fuzzy Line between Outerwear and Innerwear

Posted in Bebe, Camisole, Chemise, Lisi Valle, Slip on April 4th, 2008 by LLS – Be the first to comment

Many women have been seen wearing their lingerie as outer clothing in recent years. Bustiers look great as tops and bras and panties have doubled as bathing suits.

One designer, whose line works dually inside and out, is Lisi Valle, a Cuban designer with a long history in the fashion market. Her Spring 2008 collection showcases models wearing her lingerie in outside shots on the grass, in gardens, on verandas and poolside. To be honest, the settings seem natural for Lisi’s gorgeous designs. And the final touch to her rich and luxurious products is the mauve cotton organdy bag. A stickler for details and meticulous in her designs, Lisi believes the packaging is just as important as the design itself. The packaging lends credibility to the value of the product so each item goes home in her traditional mauve cotton organdy bag.

Another designer who promoted the niche of wearing inner clothing outside was “bebe” under the direction of founder and present chairman Manny Mashouf. One camisole design was launched and it sold out almost instantly encouraging bebe to design and produce many more styles to meet the market demand.

Indeed, in the future more designs will lend themselves to be worn as outer clothing rather than undergarments.

A Claire Pettibone Focus

While researching companies who offer luxury bridal lingerie collections, I came across several incredible pieces that made my heart jump. I thought to myself, these garments are so exquisite that it would be a shame to wear them for only one occasion in a woman’s life. Indeed, the collection deserves to be illuminated.

Regaling in extravagant pieces made of dotted Swiss tulle, Leavers Lace and gold filigree, I found that the designer is Claire Pettibone, who with her husband Guy Toley launched their first designs in 1994. The creations are vintage inspired with modern design while at the same time provide elegance, indulgence and dreamy visions to the women who wear the collection.

Claire Pettibone Viola CollectionIt is difficult to choose a favourite piece in this collection as all the pieces stand out on their own as stunning beauties. But if I were forced to make a decision and choose, I love the delicate and feminine Viola line which includes a camisole, chemise, long gown, short jacket, boyshort briefs and thong. Made of sumptuous stretch lace with silk ribbon waist sash, I was enthralled to view this collection.

But the heart stopper for me, and the line that originally piqued my interest, making me wish I never had to wear outer clothes again, was the Athena. Venise lace appliqués and stretch lace in rose, white, slate, ivory and black, I have never seen undergarments so tantalizingly beautiful. The rose coloured camisole left me feeling envious of the model wearing it as I longed to own the garment. The slate chemise might double as a gorgeous cocktail dress. I can understand why the Athena is the company’s signature collection.

Although, it appears this collection may only be sold in upscale lingerie boutiques in the US (you can find these on the Claire Pettibone site using the store locator), several pieces are being sold online as well on higher end bridal sites, which ship internationally.

Break out of the Humdrum with Spoylt

Posted in Camisole, Hipster, Spoylt on March 11th, 2008 by LLS – Be the first to comment

One thing I love about reviewing lingerie is being able to see the many gorgeous collections from around the world. Sometimes we women get caught up in our everyday lives buying the same thing day in and day out, choosing the same brand of panty, the same type of bra and always shopping at the same stores. We become creatures of habit. But I say we must live a little and today I saw the way to do just that with Spoylt. I fell in love in with this dainty and eloquent lingerie collection immediately.

Spoylt’s handmade creations exude luxury with names such as Ginger, Ingrid, Decadence, Radiance and Innocence. While I simply adore the new Greta collection, my favourite pieces were from the Cherish and Intrigue lines. The bright cerise colouring and flouncy frills made by heart race as I craved to order the Cherish camisole and hipster without hesitation.

But before I hit the “buy” button, I saw the Intrigue cami-knicker, a splendid display of sage lace in a unique one piece with chiffon sash. I thought about how incredible it would look under my suit with sheer blouse letting the gorgeous lace peek out. Next, I saw the Intrigue chemise and hipster. Alas, I was in real trouble. Should I buy the Cherish set, the Intrigue set or the Intrigue one piece? Most women would be happy that a collection offered so many matching pieces. I, on the other hand, now have an enormous decision to make.

Indeed, Spoylt is a powerful, yet sexy and feminine collection. Their company material says it best when they state that “every piece of collectible Spoylt lingerie is a harmonious blend of exquisite fabric and hand crafting”. Spoylt lingerie is a celebration of the female body and a celebration of fine tastes.

Dare to try something different this year and make a conscious effort to peruse the many retailers that offer Spoylt’s fine collection of magnificent lingerie. As the website says, “Enjoy Being Spoylt!”

Why I like the Camisole

Posted in Camisole on February 9th, 2008 by LLS – Be the first to comment

My favourite piece of lingerie is the camisole. I cannot image going a day without wearing one of my many varieties of camisoles. Each camisole in my drawer serves a different purpose and is worn with specific outfits. If you are not sure what constitutes a camisole, it is a waist length sleeveless shift worn as an undergarment on the upper body or as a fancy liner to cover the bra.

The camisole was originally worn to keep perspiration away from the body and off the skin. Nowadays, the functionality of the camisole has broadened and oftentimes, the camisole can be worn alone without a bra underneath as it may have its own sewn-in bra. In addition, many women wear camisoles as a type of undershirt to keep warm.

Indeed, the camisole’s functionality is diverse: Some camisoles are made with two-inch wide shoulder straps to help cover the tiny straps of the bra. In addition, the length of the camisole, especially if it is waist length, hides the skin from showing through the outer clothing. Fancy camisoles of this kind with lace around the bust area are perfect complements for an executive type outfit or evening gown as the bodice of the blouse or dress looks smooth, neat and tidy.

Another purpose of the camisole is the replacement of the bra. For smaller breasted women who do not require substantial support, the camisole works perfect under any type of outfit. Many women like to wear the cotton, spandex type camisoles with spaghetti straps to bed acting as their pyjama tops or under their nightgowns to help keep them warm in cooler weather.

And camisoles are ideal for track wear or casual wear as they can be worn under a jacket but used as the top itself. When it gets too hot, the jacket can be removed leaving the camisole to be used as the top. Sometimes younger women prefer the midriff length camisole under their sweats so that they are showing a little of their stomach and navel area.

Camisoles come in many styles, shapes and colours. They are made of polyester, spandex, cotton, silk, rayon, stretch lace, satin and hemp. As many different styles as there are colours and fabrics, camisoles are diverse and should be found in every woman’s lingerie drawer.
